20 Sept 1945

Dear Folks,

What a week! Enclosed you will find the bill and a form to be returned on or before Oct 1. If it’s not returned then there will be a fine. Send it to me and I’ll take it to the Cashier’s office. That’s what they paid to do so it wouldn’t get lost, I guess. The other is to be paid $56 at a time on Oct 20, Nov 20, and Dec 20. Those are the deadlines, but it can be paid before then.

Send my ribbons soon. I’ll have to wear my hair in pigtails starting Monday. 6 weeks of ratting! Ugh. It’ll be fun, tho. I’ve gotten the “hello” habit already and have met quite a few people that way.

(The pen scratches like H---! I’ll try my best handwriting if you’ll send me a pen.

Until then I’m going to type. It’s too much like work to use that pen. Imagine how much work I’ve had to do today. I’ve signed my name so many times it doesn’t look like my handwriting anymore!)

Guess what! I now have a vice. I thought I’d tell you about it so you wouldn’t get shocked when you see me doing it. I showed you that pipe I got at the sorority house, didn’t I? Well, tonight I decided to smoke it and it really isn’t so bad at all! I didn’t know it was a real pipe. It’s just a little corn-cob pipe.) But I heard a girl who went to the same party saying what a large charge her friends got out of seeing her smoke hers, so I decided to try mine and borrowed a couple of cigarettes from a girl. Not bad a all, as I said. Wait till you see me smoke it! I’m getting good. It doesn’t taste very good, though, so I won’t smoke it much, don’t worry.

Harriet said that she got some mail today by going to the window and asking for it. I think I’ll do the same tomorrow. So now that I can collect my mail, will you please send it to me? My ribbons, too.

Don’t forget to write to me, it gets lonely here.

Bye

Love,

Sib.

P.S. This DAMN pen! SMG
